As part of the ongoing “Mera Gaon Meri Gaurav (MGMG)” programme, Team No. 4 of ICAR Research Complex for North Eastern Hill Region, led by Dr. Pankaj Baiswar, Principal Scientist & Head (DSRE) visited Mawdwar village in Ri Bhoi district which is around 27 km from ICAR, on Tuesday to conduct an awareness and farmers’ interaction programme aimed at promoting Balance use of fertilizer, sustainable agricultural practices among rural farmers. During the programme, Dr. N. Uttam Singh, Senior Scientist (DTAC) and Dr. S. Gojendro Singh, Scientists DAFS, conducted an interactive session on the balanced and judicious use of fertilizers for sustainable agriculture and improved soil health. The scientists encouraged farmers to reduce excessive dependence on chemical fertilizers and adopt eco-friendly nutrient management practices. Special emphasis was given to the use of organic manures, vermicompost, green manuring, and integrated nutrient management for maintaining soil fertility and environmental sustainability. As part of the initiative, critical agricultural inputs including vegetable seeds were distributed among 30 farmers of the village to encourage kitchen gardening and improve nutritional security and livelihood opportunities. The programme concluded with an interactive discussion where farmers shared their field-level challenges and received technical guidance from the scientists.
